CNN —The Israeli army began its full ground operation in Gaza on Friday, moving tanks, bulldozers, infantrymen and combat engineer units into the Strip. But rather than make any quick advance on Gaza City, Israeli forces so far appear to have moved only slowly towards the enclave’s largest population center. A breach in the perimeter fence, through which Israeli vehicles appeared to have entered Gaza, is clearly visible. But there is also evidence of Israeli forces close to the sea further south from this location. Videos show deserted buildings that have sustained massive damage from Israeli aerial and artillery strikes ahead of the ground operation.

CNN —As fighting intensifies across Gaza and Israel, CNN is visualizing the war through maps, charts and more. As airstrikes in Gaza have forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes and overwhelm areas, including hospitals, there is little room to go. As thousands of rockets have rained down on Israel, the country has been relying once again on the Iron Dome system to protect its citizens. The US government has spent over $2.9 billion on the Iron Dome program since 2011, according to the Congressional Research Service. Nearly $100 billion in military aid to UkraineIndividual countries around the world have committed nearly $100 billion in direct military assistance to Ukraine. The US Congress has approved around $46.6 billion in direct military aid to Ukraine since NATO countries began organizing support for Ukraine a month before the full-scale invasion, data shows. This is part of a total $113 billion aid budget for both defense and civilian needs – though not all of it is meant to go directly to Ukraine. The United Kingdom has pledged more than $7 billion in direct military aid. Around 78% of Poland’s direct support for Ukraine goes to refugee costs – $17 billion out of nearly $22 billion.

CNN —Nearly 3,000 people are dead, towns and villages are decimated and rescuers are trawling for survivors after a massive earthquake ripped through Morocco. The quake is the worst the country has suffered in decades and the full scale of its damage is yet to be understood. Friday’s disaster is the deadliest quake to hit Morocco in more than 60 years, according to EM-DAT, an international disaster database. In 1960, a 5.8 magnitude quake in Morocco with an epicenter in Adagir led to at least 12,000 deaths and 25,000 injuries. And in 1980, a 7.1 magnitude ground movement in Algeria followed by a tsunami caused more than 2,600 deaths and huge damage.

CNN —Russia has a stockpile of cluster munitions and will consider using them against Ukraine “if they are used against us,” President Vladimir Putin said. “Russia has a sufficient supply of various types of cluster munitions,” the Russian leader said during an interview with a pro-Kremlin journalist. CNN —Swedish authorities have approved a protest involving the burning of Torahs and Bibles outside the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden’s national radio broadcaster reported on Friday. A person who has applied to hold a public gathering on Saturday to burn the holy books has been granted permission, Sveriges Radio said. The European Jewish Congress (EJC) said in a press release on Friday that they “strongly” condemned the decision of Swedish authorities. “I unequivocally condemn the permission granted in Sweden to burn holy books. The decision to permit that protest was made in accordance with the right of freedom of speech, Swedish police said at the time.

The museum’s press office confirmed the incident to CNN. “In the afternoon of June 14 around 2:30 p.m. (8:30aET) an action was carried out at the National Museum in Stockholm. “The painting, which is encased in glass, is now being inspected by museum conservators to determine whether there is any damage,” the press office continued.
